2007 COHORT

Kendra Bloom  Kendra is a graduate of University of California - Berkeley in Women s Studies. She wants to investigate how scientific discourse in consumer culture has been used to market products by exploiting a socially sanctioned definition of femininity and the female body that both reflects and reinforces established ideologies of dominance.

Durryle Brooks  Durryle is a graduate of St. Mary s College of Maryland in Religious Studies. He is interested in the cross section of religion and sexuality specifically LGBT individuals. He wants to be a voice within religious organizations to raise awareness about issues of sexuality and discrimination without discrediting a person s beliefs.

Stephanie Cornwell  Stephanie is a graduate of the University of Kansas in Psychology. She is interested in communication and miscommunication about sex, sexual risk taking, sexual identity formation, fluidity and sexual identity, transgender issues, and homophobia.

Michael Diaz  Michael is a graduate of Brown University in International Relations. He would like to deconstruct the idea of sexuality, especially with the role it plays in the cognitive development of younger generations. He would like to help disseminate literature and resources critical to the mental health of a marginalized minority population.

Anthony Freeman  Anthony is a graduate of Hunter College in Psychology and Media. He s research interests lie in identity issues concerning the Black and Latino LGBT community and how the media impacts people s opinions concerning their race and sexual orientation.

Amanda Hoffman Amanda is a graduate of California State University-Fullerton in Psychology. She would like to research sexuality with an emphasis on psychological theory and research design. She hopes to expand public awareness and to reduce social injustice.

Rachel Howard Rachel is a graduate of University of California-Santa Cruz in Cultural Anthropology. She would like to engage the issues of sexuality and sexual education for youths and to promote awareness of issues such as HIV prevention.

Stephen Morin  Stephen is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine in Women s Studies. His undergraduate thesis examined the representations of feminine gay men in scientific research, and he argues for the application of feminist theory and methodology in future research and sexual policy.

Maureen Moroney  Maureen is a graduate of Iowa State University in Biology. Her interest spans several topics including: the HIV crisis and the issues of dissemination of prevention and information, homosexual marriages, abortion rights, and sex education in schools amongst others.

Angelica Picazo Angelica is a graduate of San Francisco State University in Psychology with a minor is Human Sexualities. She would like to serve as a counselor for marriage, family, and relationships in the underserved Latino community and for adolescent LGBT issues.

Sydney Seifert  Sydney is a graduate of St. Lawrence University in Sociology and Caribbean Latin American Studies. She would like to research how comprehensive sexual education programs or lack of them affect adolescent development as health sexual beings.

Mathew Stief  Mathew is a graduate of University of California-Santa Cruz. His interest concerns the emerging identities, communities, and spaces built around sexuality and the issues of globalization and post-colonialism.

Desiree Valdez  Desiree is a graduate of San Francisco State University in Indigenous Gender Studies. She’s interested in the anthropology of pregnancy and childbirth. Some topics she has explored include different birthing practices, and the way in which technological interventions have transformed birth into a negative experience for women.
