AMY SUEYOSHI

 

About the Instructor

Amy Sueyoshi is an Associate Professor jointly appointed in the Ethnic Studies and Sexuality Studies at San Francisco State University. She has published on topics ranging from cross-dressing, same-sex marriage, and Asian American pornography in journals such as Frontiers and Amerasia. Currently, she is finishing a book manuscript on the intimate life of Japanese immigrant poet Yone Noguchi. Previous to academia she worked as a grassroots organizer for Asian Americans for Equality and the U.S. Peace Corps. Additionally, she is actively involved in the Asian queer women’s community in both the U.S. and Japan. She volunteers as APIQWTC’s fundraiser, a consortium of over 20 different queer Asian women’s and transgender organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Moreover, she has lectured on sexuality and social justice in Osaka and continues to serve as a liaison for women scholars and activists in Japan seeking intellectual exchange with the U.S. around issues of social justice for ethnic and sexual minorities.
